execute-command name

If name is an optional syntactic category that is valid in the current context, insert a placeholder for the given category. Otherwise, if name is a transform, execute it. Otherwise, if name is a command, execute it. Otherwise, issue an error message.

The name need not be typed in its entirety—any prefix that uniquely identifies an optional syntactic category, transform, or command is sufficient. An error message is printed if name is ambiguous or if no optional syntactic category, command, or transform matches. In addition, if editor parameter List Commands is on, a list of possible completions is displayed in a hypertext help window.

Typically, name is entered in the command pane. Alternatively, executing execute-command pops up a dialog box for name.
